Wood Retaining Walls
Custom Tiered Retaining Wall & Garden Steps
in Ajax, On
In this Ajax project, we built a tiered retaining wall system. Stepping the walls back creates usable planting beds, reduces the structural load on any single wall, and makes the slope much easier to navigate. We integrated custom wooden garden steps straight through the middle, built with the same pressure-treated wood as the walls.
Retaining Wall Construction Details
We build exclusively with pressure-treated lumber, typically 6×6 timbers, designed for ground contact.
Every wall we build includes a clear stone backfill and weeping tile drainage system to relieve hydrostatic pressure.
Municipalities in Durham Region and Toronto have strict rules about retaining wall heights (often capping at 2 to 3 feet before engineering is required). We will tell you upfront if your planned wall requires a permit or an engineer’s drawing.
Ideal for leveling sloped yards, creating raised garden beds, preventing soil erosion, and defining property lines.
