The Project Story
- The Challenge: Securing the property line for privacy while safely dividing the pool area from the rest of the yard without blocking the open view.
- The Solution: We built a solid wood perimeter fence in the background for full privacy, and installed a decorative wrought-iron fence to enclose the pool. We bolted the iron sections to the posts using brackets to allow for adjustability.
- The Outcome: A secure, private yard with a safe, compliant pool enclosure. The powder-coated finish protects the iron from rusting through harsh Canadian winters.
When you are dealing with a pool, you need security that doesn’t ruin the feel of the yard. For this property in Whitby, we built two separate fence systems to get the job done right. First, we put up the solid wood perimeter fence you see in the background to handle the privacy. Then, we divided the pool from the main yard using a decorative iron fence to define the space while keeping it open.
We don’t weld the iron sections, because that locks the structure in permanently. Instead, we bolt the sections to the posts using heavy-duty brackets. This allows for precise adjustability if the ground shifts over the years. To handle the winter weather, the entire iron system is powder-coated. This baked-on finish seals the metal and stops rust before it starts. It is a beautiful setup that handles both privacy and pool safety.

Q: Do I Need a Permit for an Iron Fence in Whitby?
- No, fences generally do not require a permit, but there are usually height limitations and specific requirements for pool enclosure fences.
Q: Will a Wrought-Iron Fence Rust?
- We use powder-coated wrought-iron. This finish seals the metal from moisture, making it highly resistant to rust and Canadian winters.
