The Project Story

  • The Challenge: The original posts rotted out at ground level, causing a long run of the fence to lean dangerously, even though the panels themselves were still solid.
  • The Solution: Instead of tearing down the entire structure, we removed the failed posts and set new pressure-treated 4x4s deep into fresh concrete.
  • The Outcome: The entire fence line is perfectly straight and structurally sound again, giving the homeowners years of extra life out of the fence for a fraction of the cost of a full rebuild.

When a fence starts to lean, it is usually because the posts have rotted out at the ground level, not because the panels themselves are ruined. For this property in Ajax, the original structure was failing, but tearing down a massive run of good panels didn’t make financial sense.

If you look at the project photo, the visual contrast tells the whole story. You can clearly see the weathered, grey-ish fence panels now held perfectly straight by the new, solid pressure-treated posts (brown) we installed. We dig out the old rot, pour new concrete footings, and anchor the existing panels directly to the new timber. While it’s not a flashy upgrade, it solves the problem immediately. It squares up the boundary, stops the fence from blowing over in the next storm, and secures the yard without the massive bill of a total replacement.

Q: Can You Replace a Fence Post Without Taking Down the Fence?

  • Yes. If the panels are still solid, we can temporarily detach them, dig out the rotted post and old concrete footing, set a new post in fresh concrete, and reattach your existing panels. It is the most cost-effective way to save a leaning fence.

Q: Do I Need a Permit to Replace Fence Posts in Ajax?

  • No. Routine maintenance and structural repairs like swapping out rotted support posts do not require a permit, provided you are not changing the overall height or the property line location of the fence.
